Low Vision Services
Low vision is defined as any vision loss that cannot be returned to normal with glasses, contact lenses, surgery, or medication. Our team can help you identify your stage in your vision journey to ensure that the right tools and assistance are provided every step of the way. If you would like to be referred to our team of Low Vision Rehabilitation specialists, you can request a low vision examination. We can help you navigate financial assistance and most insurances, as well as Medicare are accepted. If necessary, transportation to and from appointments can also be arranged.
We’ll Help You Through the Process
When you first come to see us, the low vision team at VisAbility Pittsburgh, including a specially trained optometrist, will give you a comprehensive examination and prescribe any necessary optical aids. Based on the outcomes of your exam and prescribed needs, an occupational therapist on our team will teach you how to use your new optical tools to ensure success.
Referrals to our Low Vision Rehabilitation Center can be made by anyone requesting a low vision examination for themselves or another individual. We can assist you with financial needs and — if necessary — with transportation to and from appointments. Medicare and most insurances are accepted.

- Our nationally accredited Assistive Technology Center offers personalized instruction in accessible hardware and software to beginners, as well as career professionals and seniors who are blind or vision impaired.
- Our New Beginnings is a comprehensive program that teaches clients with vision loss how to live independently in their everyday lives. Individualized methods are used to optimize the greatest level of self-sufficiency.
